Q:What is the deal with Scarlett's freckles/leopard-esque spots? I dived through your blogs a couple of times, but I don't think I ever found the answer to that. Is it a racial or species characteristic? What race/species is she, and what are they like in terms of culture and whatnot? Does she even have a specific race/species or is it just for aesthetic reasons?

Oh yes! I should probably go more into this little feature so thank you for asking!

Scarlett’s species is human and she is of the Raratongan race (a country which is loosely based on several RL countries and cultures such as Tanzania, Turkey, Indonesia, Maori people, and Khoisan). Many Raratongans are indeed heavily freckled and in some, clusters of freckles can often give of the spotted appearance, such as with Scarlett’s case.

One of the myths in Raratonga is that the “spot” formation of the freckles in certain tribes gives tell to what animals their ancestors worshiped in the past. It should also be noted that any Raratongan born blind with white hair is said to be a gift from the gods as they are believed to be closest to the Spirit World and possess the power to commune with spirits. Those of such attributes are generally raised to become Shamans.

(Scarlett’s spotted appearance was actually an accident at first because my pen would just spurt out ink sometimes and it just became a joke the stuck)
